On Wednesday, January 14, 2026 Tasha said goodbye to her best friend, Mitzu.
I met Tasha years ago through a mutual friend, and we bonded quickly—through sarcasm, laughter, and our shared love for dogs. Over the years, we fostered, trained, and went on countless dog play dates together. But to truly know Tasha was to know Mitzu. He wasn’t just her dog; he was her constant, her anchor, and the quiet presence beside her through every chapter of her life.
For ten years, Mitzu was her pride and joy, the love of her life. Every big decision, every moment of uncertainty, every celebration—he was there. He stood by her through breakups, moves, and new jobs, offering comfort without words and loyalty without condition. In October of 2024, he even walked her down the aisle, a moment that perfectly reflected who he was to her: not just a companion, but family.
Over the past year, Mitzu began to slow down. His back legs stiffened, and moving became harder. Tasha did everything she could to keep him comfortable, managing his pain with care and love, always holding on to one simple promise—to give him more time only if it could be free of suffering. And as it so often does, the change came suddenly. One day he struggled to stand, then to move, and in her heart, Tasha knew. Loving him meant letting him go.
Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a soul so deeply intertwined with your own. Knowing it is time—and trusting that choice—can bring a small sense of peace, but it never takes the pain away. It simply reminds you how deep the love was.
In Mitzu’s final days, Tasha made sure he felt that love in every possible way. His favorite toys. Endless car rides. And one last night, a steak dinner shared by the three of them, together, as a family. A simple moment, filled with everything that mattered.
The bond between a girl and her dog cannot truly be put into words. Mitzu was Tasha’s strength when she felt weak, her humor when life felt heavy, and her comfort when the world was too much. He gave her unconditional love, asked for nothing in return, and left a mark that can never be erased.
The quiet that now fills her home—and her heart—will be heavy. Navigating life without him will take time. But the memory of your first true love is never lost. It lives on in the way you love, the way you care, and the way you carry them with you, always.
Mitzu was deeply loved. And because of that love, he will never truly be gone. 💛
